Turn an old Android phone into a remote security camera

Two phones, two roles

The stationary Android phone runs as the Security Camera. Your Main Phone monitors new motion recordings. Both mode lets a device record with its own camera while following recordings from other devices.

Motion video and notifications

The camera records detected motion and uploads the video through Google Drive. The main phone notifies you when it finds a new recording. Both devices need the appropriate Drive account, internet and permissions. Timing depends on uploads and connectivity.

Live access is separate

Live View opens the camera without waiting for a motion upload. It requires secure pairing, the appropriate entitlement and internet. Keep the goGPS camera screen open on the camera phone. A live session does not itself create a recording.

Requirements for an old phone

The app’s basic minimum is Android 7.0; Google Play shows compatibility with the available release. A working camera, free storage, power and a stable connection are needed. Check Premium access in the app.

How to get started

1. Install goGPS Drive on both Android phones and prepare their Drive connections.
2. Select Security Camera on the stationary phone and Main Phone on the other.
3. For live access, compare both security codes and pair the devices.
4. Trigger a test movement and check the recording, notification and live picture.
